I first met Pete back in the late 1980s when I was putting a band together to do a one-off gig in London. We hit it off as musicians, instantly becoming friends, and after the gig was done the band decided that we’d had so much fun we’d keep playing together. I can honestly say that I’ve never experienced so much joy playing in a band and look back on those days with great affection. Sometimes we could hardly play because we were laughing so much on stage – and Pete was usually the epicentre of the humour. His level of musicianship was equalled by the wise cracks coming from behind the keyboards every night and I’ll never forget the time I came off stage feeling pretty good about how well I’d played only to be met with Pete’s, “That was pretty good… for a man of your ability.” Pete, if ever you need a guitarist, you’ve got my number.” Dave Mead from guitarist magazine (
